James  Austin ANDERSON was born 11 August 1877 in Hickman County, TN and died there 3 Mar 1949. He married Mary SPRADLING 14 February 1899.  Mary was born in Dickson County, TN in 1884.  She died 26 January 1972.  Both are buried at the Totty's Bend Church of Christ.  The photograph shown here is from about the time of their marriage (Note the button on Jim's lapel.  It has a miniature portrait of Mary.)

James Anderson, also known as Jim or J.A. Jr., worked at a variety of occupations.  He farmed in his early years.  Later he lived in Centerville and worked for an ice company.  He also worked as a carpenter at various times.  Jim and Mary lived in Totty's Bend, very near the Joseph ANDERSON farm.   As a child I lived about a 1/4 mile from their home.  Jim died the year before I was born, but I have many recollections of Mary.  She was a tall, stately woman with long graying hair.  I remember watching her braid her hair while she sat and rocked on the front porch when I was perhaps 4 or 5 years old. Their children were:

Clara, born 5 Apr 1900, died 19 Jan 1994, married 2 August 1919 to William CANNON;

Sewell Dennis, born 30 Jan 1902, died 10 Jan 1973, married  to Mattie Pearl CRAFT;

Nola, born 25 Mar 1904, died  July 1966, married to  Oliver BAIRD.

Herman Ferguson (my father), born 2 Apr 1909, died 16 August 1957, married 26 Apr 1930 to  Ada Laverne DURHAM .
