James B. ANDERSON was born in Tennessee around 1806.  He lived on Falls Branch of Swan Creek in Hickman County, TN.  where I believed he farmed with his father Azariah.  In 1846, James acquired title to a parcel of land on Falls Branch.  This 95 acre tract is the only land he is known to have owned.      In  1856  James mortgaged the property to settle several debts amounting to $89.75, making this the first "bill consolidation loan" in my family history!

James married Elizabeth Rawson (or ROSSON) about 1830.  She was also born in TN.  Their children included:

bulletRebecca, born about 1832, married to Levi SIMMONS;
bulletSarah, born about 1834;
bulletWilliam, born about 1836, married about 1858 to Lydia, (surname unknown);
bulletJohn, born about 1838,  married about 1862 to Melvina (or Levinia)  SIMMONS;
bulletMary (Polly), born about 1841;
bulletJames B. Jr., born about 1843,  married about 1865 to Mary  (surname unknown);
bulletJoseph A. (my great grandfather), born 9 March 1845, died 14 December 1905, married 21 September 1876 to Josephine Amanda Elgiva  FIELDER;
bulletRachel, born  April 1847, died 1922, married  20 December 1868 to William SIMMONS;
bulletElizabeth, born about 1849;
bulletSila (f), born  about 1851;
bulletFrancis A. (f), born  about 1853;
bulletM.A. (f) born about 1855.

Many years ago, my Aunt Clara ANDERSON told me that the ANDERSON's came from "up on Swan" and that she remembered visiting her father's "Aunt Rach" SIMMONS there when she was a little girl around 1910.  That information along with the birth and death dates for Joseph ANDERSON obtained from cemetery records, marriage records, and Census data  led me to the conclusion that James B. ANDERSON was indeed my great-great-grandfather.
