Betsey, married Joseph MORRIS 22 Jul 1811 in
Williamson Co., TN

Rachael, born about 1811 in Williamson County
TN,married Martin CONDER about 1830; died after 1853. Martin CONDER was born
about 1805 in KY. Martin Conder was born in KY about 1805. In 1850, the
CONDER family lived on Falls Branch adjacent to the ANDERSON family. Names of
the CONDER children have lead me to believe that Rachael CONDER was the daughter
of Azariah ANDERSON. Her first born daughter is named Rebecca which is the name
of Azariah's wife, the presumed maternal grandmother. The second son is named
Azariah Anderson CONDER after the presumed maternal grandfather.
Presumably the first son, William James was named after his paternal grandfather
and the third son was named after his own father. This naming pattern was common
at the time. Although there is no firm evidence to support this inference, I
have drawn the tentative conclusion that Rachael was the daughter of Azariah and
Rebecca ANDERSON. Rachel and Martin CONDER had the following children:
 | Rebecca A. CONDER born about 1831 TN. |
 | William James CONDER, born about 1832 married Melinda CARROLL (20
April 1833-20 Feb. 1916 ). There children were:
 | William Martin CONDER, born 03 Mar 1863, died 10 Aug. 1884 |
 | Rachel CONDER |
 | Lavicia CONDER |
|
This branch of the family were central figures in the infamous Mormon Massacre
of 1884 in which a mob disrupted a church service at the home of William and
Melinda CONDER on Cane Creek in Lewis County, TN. In the insuing gun battle five
were killed including William Martin CONDER; his half-brother John Riley HUDSON;
two Mormon missionaries, William BERRY and John H. GIBBS; and David HINSON, a
member of the mob. Melinda CONDER was wounded by a shotgun blast and was
crippled for life.
