My grandmother Mary Spradling was the second of six children of Robert H. spradling and Julia Rebecca Southerland.
Robert H. SPRADLING was born in Dickson County, TN in 1853. He married Julia Rebecca SOUTHERLAND 21 May 1877 in Dickson County. Julia died in Hickman County, TN on 27 July 1930. I know very little of Robert and Rebecca. I know they were in Hickman County prior to 1899 because both Cora and Mary were married there in an apparent double wedding in February 1899. My mother Ada DURHAM remembers both Robert and Julia as frequent visitors in Jim and Mary ANDERSON's home. Rebecca died there in 1930 and was buried in the Southerland Cemetery in Dickson County. Mother also recalls frequent visits by Mary ANDERSON's brothers and sisters. She describes them all as talkative, lively people who enjoyed travel and family visits. She describes Robert (Bob) SPRADLING as a "fine looking old man", with a biting wit and an eye for young ladies. After Rebecca's death he moved to Jefferson County AL to live with some of his children, who are said to have been employed in the steel industries around Birmingham. He died there on 6 January 1943. He was also buried in the Southerland Cemetery although neither grave is marked. Robert and Rebecca they had the following children:

Cora and Frank NICKS moved to Union City, TN. The PROCTOR's moved to Birmingham as did the SPRADLING sons. I have not as yet made contacts among their descendants.
